A sunny, mid-winter trail running experience in Tucson, AZ. This six day running retreat is a great way to escape harsh winter weather and trail run in an epic environment. Amazing trails, top-shelf food, and relaxing lodging await!
Join Alpine Running Guides January 2nd-7th for a premier trail running getaway this winter in Tucson, AZ. Experience six days of rugged terrain, exceptional meals, and quality support as you run your way through the mild winter weather.
Tucson is an incredible winter destination for trail running. The city is located in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, but above the valley floor rise huge mountains ramping up to 9,000’ in places. Non-reptilian desert wildlife becomes more active in the winter months providing you a chance to run by wild javelina, mule deer, or a coyote.
This is the optimal running vacation to kickstart your 2022 trail running goals. Five days of running plus a built-in cross training day in Saguaro National Park will get you on the way to your best fitness year ever. The starting elevation of each run will vary from 2,500’ to 6,500’ to make for a variety of trail experiences. Our potential running itinerary includes:
-Day 1 (Arrival Day) - 5-7 mile net-downhill trail run at sunset.
-Day 2 - 13 Wilderness miles to the highest point visible from Tucson
-Day 3 - 11 miles net-downhill from high desert to valley bottom
-Day 4 - Cross training day! Biking and hiking in Saguaro National Park
-Day 5 - 16 miles from the pines to the cactus
-Day 6 (Departure day) - Sunrise run up a local favorite
Two guides will be on all the runs to help provide directions, information, lame jokes, and moral support. All runs are shuttled from the house.
Hoka sponsored runner, Adam Peterman will be joining us! Now you have a chance to run with and learn from one of the best in the world. Where else can you spend one-on-one time with the 2022 World Champion and Western States Champion? Adam will join us on a few runs, spend time answering questions, tell some stories (probably mostly about his secret fishing spots), and be there to help you work on your technical running ability. Don't worry, he has agreed to run our pace!
After your daily run you will be pampered with healthy, delicious food prepared by an in-house chef. Each meal is lovingly prepared to replenish your system after a day on the trail, and designed to excite your palette.
The food isn't the only part of your recovery plan though. You can relax in the hot tub, take a yoga class, or talk training strategy and technique with your expert guides who will be staying on location with you. All your needs will be catered so you can focus on your daily, recovery, and general relaxation.
Our Tucson Winter Retreat is based out of the Cycling House. The Cycling House is an incredible villa nestled near the base of Mount Lemmon. The grounds have a pool, basketball court, ping pong table, hot tub, and a short single track trail if you want to work on your banked turn skills. We will also have access to bikes for a recovery day ride in Saguaro National Park, or post-run spin around the block. The house is far from the traffic noise and you are more likely to be awakened by the hoot of an owl or the eerie calls of coyotes than your alarm clock.
Up your trail running game this winter with our Tucson trail running getaway. See you in the desert!

"Having done numerous Alpine Running Guides trips I can highly recommend them. Forrest is the consummate professional and not only is an outstanding runner in his own right, he has the ability to make you feel at ease on the trail whether you’re running an 8 or 12 minute mile pace. I honestly have never met anyone who truly enjoys all aspects of trail running....Sara is equally capable as a runner and can run anyone’s pace and make everyone feel completely comfortable with their own abilities."
